How To Take Down A Double Garage Door

The sectional garage door uses a system of hinges tracks rollers pulleys and springs to move up and down with or without a power opener.

How to take down a double garage door.

Remove the bolts only on the top half of each hinge leaving the bottom halves attached to the lower door panel. With a helper or two supporting the top of the top panel remove the roller bracket at each end of the panel. Stand off to the side of the door. Then take off the clamps or the locking pliers and slowly close the door.

Uninstall a garage door. One of the biggest tasks in the whole project will probably be taking down the garage door. Pull it all the way down resting the bottom of the door on the floor. How to take apart a garage door release the tension from garage door springs and remove garage door tracks.

These doors are heavy so you may need a few helpers to pull down a double door. Carefully tilt the panel back and lift it away from the tracks and the rest of the door. It requires two people especially if the door is a wooden one. Removing a sectional garage door is a job best left to a specialist but if you are mechanically inclined and enjoy a challenge you can save some money.
