Good morning glass detective i am preparing to replace the glass only in an old aluminum sliding door.
How to replace latch on sliding glass door.
Usually you buy just the mortised steel lock assembly that fits within the door and reuse the old handles and actuating lever.
Prime line s selection of replacement mortise locks for sliding glass doors.
Step 3 check the parts of the latch.
It s an easy fix.
I am guessing that the glass panes are 7 16 with 3 16 airspace leaving 1 8 for rubber gasket.
Step 1 remove the old handle.
Open the door so that you can remove the old handle of your sliding door.
Place shims around the edges and top of your door frame every 12 inches.
The frame is not thermally broken however the glass is insulated.
Check to make sure whether the latch is already broken or if it can still be repaired.
Use shims under screw holes to help keep your threshold in good shape.
Step 2 remove the latch body.
The outside to outside dimension of the aluminum slider extrusion is 1.
Tilt the door into the opening with the bottom side going in first using shims as necessary to create a secure fit.
This simple diy trick may solve your issues.
This sliding glass door lock was not working.
Normally a glass sliding door.
If a patio door is difficult to operate won t lock properly or is loose or drafty make adjustments to the roller latch or strike to fix the issue.
You can do this by sliding it back but it is a good idea to keep it open with a large brick or one of those devices that holds a bike s wheel in place.
