If you have a doorknob on a bedroom door or another interior room of your home that doesn t have a lock the only way to fix this issue is by replacing the knob.

Then insert the interior door handle and connect it to the latch.
Align the top edge of both doors and use the existing door as a guide for marking the hinge placement on the new door.
Inspect the door knobs and look for a small screw slot or hole on the post or shank that the door knob is attached.
Now secure the latch to the hole by inserting the screws on the screw holes and tightening them.
You would be surprised how a simple job like removing a door handle or doorknob can be a frustrating experience if your not prepared.
Mark the hinge placement use a speed square to mark the top and bottom of each hinge on the new door.
This distance known as backset typically equals 2 3 8 inches or 2 3 4 inches.
Remove the screws on the latch face.
Many replacement doorknobs will work with either backset but be sure your new knob is designed to work with your measurement.
The bars from your exterior knob should poke out onto the other side of your door.

Take your interior knob and align the holes in the knob with the bars on the exterior knob.
Insert the screwdriver into the slot on the side edge of the door knob s face plate and pry it off.
Connect the interior doorknob to the door if you don t have a faceplate.
Measure the distance from the center of the big hole in the surface of the door to the edge of the door.
Place the existing door on top of the new door.
Once you line them up press the interior knob onto the bars until the knob runs flush with the door.
Start by inserting the new latch into the latch hole.
